Apple's is a great product. It would have been better, had they provided a GPS as an Add on module. Since they did not PartFoundry have created a little piece of hardware that they call as the LocoGPS. LocoGPS is a GPS module specially built for the iPhone that electrically interfaces to the iPhone and allows you to use your iPhone just like any other GPS device.

To use the LocoGPS module you need have a hacked iPhone in order to be able to use 3rd party applications. The software that runs this little piece of hardware is open source. The module has a price of $89 and shall start shipping in February 2008.

LocoGPS is currently being tested on the iPhone however an iPod Touch compatible hardware and software is also expected soon as mentioned on the developer’s official website.

Alternatively if you are a big fan of Google Maps, you can use the My Location (Beta) feature to get a GPS-like service on your Apple iPhone.
