Rapidshare Shutdown

As of 19 January 2008 16:00 GMT, Rapidshare AG's servers were found to have been shutdown. The cause of the shutdown is not know yet. It has been rumored tha anti-piracy authorities have done it and more than hundreds of Rapidshare servers were seized from their offices in Berlin although no arrests were made. This could not be confirmed.

Sources said, authorities are contemplating pursuing legal action against users who distribute and download pirated copies of software and movies from these servers.

Rapidshare was very popular among the people who used to share photos, video clips, songs. It was however, used to abuse illegal software piracy.

Many links were reported to have been broken in message boards. Many message boards used to link to Rapidshare for photo and video.

Many things are uncertain. But the only thing that is certain is rapidshare is not working as of now.

Update: Rapidshare.com is back online again.

Rapidshare updated its news page with the following note, “Unfortunately, starting at 5 pm CET, one of our carriers experienced a severe technical problem with their hardware, causing a loss of 50 gigabit of bandwidth. Therefore RapidShare was unavailable for several hours. We already have taken steps to avoid this particular problem in the future.”
