Toyota Prius 2010 Update
3 July 2008
Lithium Ion Batteries have higher storage Capacity as comapred to the Nickel-Metal Hydride Batteries. The Cell phohes, Notebooks and GPs and hand held units have been using the Lithium Ion for a while as it provides more Ampere Hour for a given size.
The Ampere Hour is defined as the number of hours a battery would last if it takes one Ampere of current. So, if a battery has 10 Ampere hour rating, it will last for 10 hours if it takes 1 Amperes of current. It will last 5 hours if it takes 2 Amperes of cuurrent.
Toyota is delaying launch of Prius 2010 to ensure quality after it decided to not to replace the nickel-metal-hydride battery used in the hybrid system with a lithium-ion battery for the first version of the new model. The news of the Toyota not going for the new type of Battery appeared in Japanese newspaper Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun. Toyota and the battery partner of Toyata - Matsushita Electric Industrial are working on the new lithium-ion battery which is expected to power the next-generation Prius.
It would have been exciting to have the Lithium Ion batteries as it would have improved efficiency by way of higher storage capacity. It has been a bit of dissappointing.
We do, however, expect a better efficiency and more mileage in the 2010 Toyota Prius. Probably we will have to wait for 2011 to see Lithium Ion Powered Toyota Prius.
We at Janatanews are excited to know about the next generation the Lithium Ion powered Toyota Prius.
