Toyota Prius 2011 Update
9 July 2008
Janatanews had
reported that 2010 Toyota Prius will not have the Lithium Ion Batteries as earlier stipulated. It however looks like 2011 Toyota Prius will have the Li Ion Batteries, which will improve efficiency and ability to run the Car in battery only for a longer distance. This will pave the way for electric only version of the car.
Lithium Ion Batteries have higher storage Capacity as comapred to the Nickel-Metal Hydride Batteries. The Cell phohes, Notebooks and GPs and hand held units have been using the Lithium Ion for a while as it provides more Ampere Hour for a given size.
Current hybrids with the NiMH batteries average roughly 45 to 55 mpg, while the new Li Ion Batteries have mileage rates of 70mpg in mixed driving. The model getting delayed is the next generation Prius. It is learnt that Toyota will also be delaying plans for hybrid Tundra and Sequoia SUVs.
It would be exciting to have the Lithium Ion batteries as it would improve efficiency by way of higher storage capacity.
